What will happen in your session?

From the Cambridge Analytica revelations in the spring of 2018, the public learned of a private company involved in election influence in nearly two dozen countries and of the company's premier product — political advertisements individually and psychometrically customized for maximum persuasiveness. In this session, we feature a soon-to-be launched, interactive and dynamic tool educating users on this methodology and exposing them to how it works. Using the tool, users can learn about their own psychometric composition and view real political ads tailored to their unique characteristics. The tool with be demonstrated live, and aspects about the development of the tool will be shared as well. The talk and demonstration will be accompanied by commentary about the role of digital technologies in the dignity of democratic process based on original research conducted at the Tactical Technology Collective. The tool could then also be made available as part of The Glass Room exhibition for visitors to explore.

Noting our acceptance from @MozillaFestival/2018-privacy-and-security-wranglers and the Mozfest 2018 schedule. Having personally visited Glass Room many times last year, I'm excited about the dynamics behind this. See you in October @shibacomputer

I think this proposal got a little mixed up in being added to github.

@shibacomputer and I submitted #99. Separately, proposals were submitted via email for the Glass Room Experience ("Mini Glass Room") in a dedicated space and the presentation on the soon-to-be launched, interactive and dynamic tool educating users on psychometric profiling and political campaigns.

The Glass Room Experience ("Mini Glass Room") and the interactive tool are done by other people (not @shibacomputer and me), and should probably be separated given the fundamentally different structures (Gallery versus Learning Forum) and that the interactive tool fits much better in the Openness space, while the Glass Room Experience is accurately placed in Security and Privacy space.

The person from Tactical Tech who would be presenting on the interactive tool is @vbashyakarla. The people who are working on the Glass Room Experience do not have GitHub handles, but if you need to put something in that space, you can put mine down and I will make sure that they get any relevant messages.

I'm happy to help with getting this sorted further if needed.

HI I just want to add to this - I'm the project lead on The Glass Room,
Can we split out the session on the interactive advertising tool - and also have a slot for The Glass Room. This is a Mozilla funded project and we planned with Mozilla to convene a session to discuss how The Glass Room could work with libraries and other leanring orgsanisations.

Can we also discuss where we can set up The Glass Room in Ravenscourt Place?

Thanks

@alicma303 Floor allocations are likely taking place this week (Thursday) along with an earlier team meeting on space design (Tuesday). We'll report back the moment we have further news/questions on the setup and clarity on privsec/openness.

Hi @alicma303 Please note that this installation will take place within the P&S floor and not in the registration area of MozFest.

@alicma303 we're considering around 3m² (32ft²) for this installation. Does this feel appropriate?

Re the breakout advertising session, we have several along that advertising theme so this feels an appropriate ask from us. It would have to be 60 minutes though.

When you asked "also have a slot for Glass Room" we do already have #99 Are you speaking of a further request?

Gallery pieces already have the option of a scheduled time in the event app for discussion at your installation which could be useful for this. Perhaps even both days if this might prove benefitial. We could even accomodate you at the Friday Science Fair if you're interested @alicma303 👋

Hi @alicma303,

We're really keen to have your miniature Glass Room in our P&S space this year. However, there's no way we can guarantee 20 square meters of space. We actually have yet to receive the floor plans for our space this year, so we actually don't yet know how much space we'll have in total, let alone how much we may be able to allocate for your installation. Are there ways you could be flexible in where/how the installation is put together (for example, splitting it up into a number of smaller installations that are spread throughout the space)? What's the minimum amount of space that you would find workable?

Thanks,

Hi, sorry for the delay - we have identified space for you. We'll be on the 9th floor of Ravensbourne. There are three fixed tables (sort of like lab benches) in Studio 906 (see attachment). We can give you two of those if that will work. They are very sturdy, have plenty of power outlets and would allow for people to move around the front and back of the displays. Unfortunately, there is no significant wall space available - new lockers were installed since last year and there are windows along the walls and doors that mustn't be blocked throughout the space. Let us know if this will work for you all.

No problem. Yes, this is on the Privacy & Security Floor. You can have boards but the ceilings are very high and hanging anything requires a ladder. It would be better to have it on a self-supporting stand (or if there are only two, you could lean them against the wall with windows). What kind of media players are you needing? We have monitors that you can connect to a laptop, is that what you need?

@Saallen @bunnybooboo Is this a type of screen we can request? (They'll need two.) Thanks both!
