The FoodEx2 Smart Coding Application is a new tool, developed in EFSA that aims to help data providers to faster codify their data according to the FoodEx2 classification and description system. It adopts several techniques of artificial intelligence, more specifically machine learning and text mining. The application provides a set of suggested codes based on the free text describing a particular food given as input by the user. The application consists mainly of two parts:

  1. the front-end: used to show data to end users in a simplified way allowing the easy interaction;
  2. the back-end: exposes the functionalities of the machine learning models and of the feedback engine through APIs.

The following wiki, dedicated to the back-end, describes the data, the machine learning models and how it is possible to use the exposed APIs.
